What led you to your service work?

I've always been involved in community service and outreach starting from a young age. I was a part of an orchestra that would perform and fundraise for homeless shelters, orphanages, and nursing homes, and I also volunteered in my church as a Korean school teacher assistant. When I was younger, it was difficult to understand the impact of the service I did, but I realized that my efforts and involvement in the community help me develop valuable relationships with other individuals.

What has been the most rewarding aspect that comes with your community involvements?

Through my diverse set of experiences volunteering, I have interacted with individuals from all types of backgrounds – race, sex, religion, etc. I have had the opportunity to explore beyond the academic classroom and outside of my comfort zone to intersect with these individuals, and it has been rewarding learning more about them. My perspective on life has expanded with a multitude of layers now, and I believe that this mindset inspires me to be more understanding of the community around me.

How would you encourage others to get involved?

I would recommend that people search for what their passions and interests are and use that as a guiding tool to be involved. For example, I have a passion for medicine, and I had a personal goal of becoming immersed in the community to develop personal relationships. Based on that, I sought opportunities and resources to navigate my way.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

People are usually surprised to learn that I love playing sports during my free time. In the past, I have done Taekwondo, tennis, field hockey, and flag football and I am starting to get into weightlifting, basketball, and soccer!

What is your favorite spot on Grounds and why?

My favorite spot on Grounds is the Lawn, because I never have a reason to go to it because my classes are mostly in other parts of the school. It's relaxing to just sit on the steps with my friends and occasionally glance over to see what others are doing.

What is a book or movie you would recommend?

The Great Gatsby.

If you could do one thing to make the world a better place, what would it be?

Provide equal access to education to pave an avenue for individuals to be informed and involved.
