What led you to your service work?

My service work was inspired by my dedication to help those who are less fortunate in our community. One of my biggest passions is being able to address the needs of those who are underserved, whether it be through direct or indirect engagement. As a leader, I also hope that my work towards my community inspires others to take action as well in any way possible.

What has been the most rewarding aspect that comes with your community involvements?

The most rewarding aspect that come from my community involvements are the smiles and gratitude we receive from the underserved populations. We have donated several supplies such as food, water, blankets, toothbrushes, toothpaste, menstrual products, and other hygienic products to aid Charlottesville and the surrounding communities. Knowing we are part of a movement to improve and potentially change the lives of others is our greatest reward – allowing us to end our day with smiles on our face.

How would you encourage others to get involved?

I would encourage others to get involved by attending our service events, especially our fundraisers throughout the year. Additionally, our members can spread awareness about our organization through social media or even by word of mouth. I would also educate my community on how our service and events positively impact those around us, especially highlighting issues that underserved populations face.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

People would be surprised to learn that I took theater in high school. As an individual who is very involved in the sciences, many individuals, including my own friends, do not know this about me. Additionally, my introverted personality would be another reason as to why this may come as a shock to many.

What is your favorite spot on Grounds and why?

My favorite spot on Grounds is the Starbucks on the Corner. Not only is it one of my top study spots, but I also know that I'll always run into a familiar face. Furthermore, the atmosphere this Starbucks provides is comfy and welcoming, which is something I look forward to every time I go there.

What is a book or movie you would recommend?

A movie series that I would recommend is "Twilight," which is a fantasy film series that revolves around a high school girl who falls in love with a vampire. Even though this movie is not realistic in any sense, I feel as though there are a lot of themes that can be drawn from it, such as family, evil vs. good, love, etc.

If you could do one thing to make the world a better place, what would it be?

If I could do one thing to make the world a better place, it would be to educate our younger generations on how they can become more involved in the community. With the consistent changes in technology, I feel as though younger individuals have become increasingly less aware of what it means to be present in the community, whether it be related to acts of service or not. Thus, I would want to educate them on their role in the community and how to engage in it as well.
