Parents Fund & Sustainability Internship Grants

David Lapinski

Interested in making an impact on the world? Leave your lasting influence on non-profits and public service organizations in healthcare, education, sustainability, the arts, and more. Since 2005, the Parents Fund has supported 22 students a year in their pursuit of meaningful lives. Parents Fund and Sustainability Internship Grants (PFIG) are awarded in the spring of each academic year and are intended to provide funds that support students who have secured unpaid public service internships. These $3,000 grants allow students to engage in life-transforming experiences that shape their career trajectory, but more importantly, make an impact on non-profit organizations with a mission of supporting others.

Student Reflections

Follow in the footsteps of hundreds of UVA students who are making a lasting impact on non-profits like Audrey Hicks (’23), who interned with the International Rescue Committee, or Grace Kurcina (’22), who interned with the International Justice Mission, or Clara Falls, who shared this experience while supporting the Food Justice Network and their mission to eliminate food insecurity:

“I have really enjoyed learning the ins and outs of the Charlottesville food system and gaining insight into how to make local political change happen! So far, I have been working on two main projects: the Charlottesville Local Foods, Local Places workshop and the Food Justice Network Food Equity Initiative. This internship has really enhanced my equity perspective. I have spent most of my days thinking about the systematic issues that hold certain people down and what actions advocates can take to change this system. However, I did become frustrated by how long the change making process takes and how little is possible without big policy or cultural shifts. With this being said, this experience has made me want to do more in the policy realm on the federal and state level, to make wider and more drastic change."

Check out all their stories, and the stories of many others, through these powerful reflections and testimonies.
