The student organizations listed here are involved in service through local, national, and international community service activities, fundraising, and activism. Students self-select the public service category through the student organization registration process, and staff assign this category to administrative organizations.
Madison House is a non-profit organization, which provides approximately 3,000 students with regular volunteer opportunities at over 90 sites in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area. Madison House serves as an umbrella organization for 19 programs. Run by over 200 student program directors, each of these programs is unique in its mission and in its role in the community.
Mahogany Dance Troupe was started in 1991 by seven African-American females with the mission of bringing African and African-American dance to the University community. Aside from buying supplies, 100% of the money MMD raises goes directly to MMDC. This objective of MMDC is to raise money for children with Muscular Dystrophy.
