The student organizations listed here are involved in service through local, national, and international community service activities, fundraising, and activism. Students self-select the public service category through the student organization registration process, and staff assign this category to administrative organizations.
Bake-Off for Breast Cancer is a friendly baking competition that brings together members of the UVA and Charlottesville community to raise money and support breast cancer research and awareness. We are Battleground Faith/Princess Club. We are an organization that aims to uplift members of the Charlottesville community, specifically the young girls of the West Haven community. We base our means of reaching out to the community on Christian principles.
Every year, thousands of people of all ages are diagnosed with blood cancers like leukemia or lymphoma, sickle cell anemia or other life-threatening diseases. Many of them will die unless they get a bone marrow or cord blood transplant from amatching donor. The mission of Black Girls RUN! is to encourage African-American women to make fitness and healthy living a priority. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 80% of African-American women are overweight. BGR! wants to create a movement to lower that percentage and subsequently, lower the number of women with chronic diseases associated with an unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle.
The Blue Ridge Mountain Rescue Group (BRMRG) is a volunteer Search and Rescue organization comprised of UVA students and members of the community.
